Serving

Serving

Having encountered the love of Jesus through worship and the community of faith and having fallen in love with Jesus through more study of the Word and growing in relationship with fellow believers, we have come to see the importance of serving in His name.  Jesus has loved us and called us to love others as He has loved us.  Below are a variety of ways to serve others in Jesus' name here at Vilonia United Methodist Church.

Vilonia UMC Backpack Program

Arkansas ranks #1 for children who suffer from food insecurity.  In Vilonia, most of our schools see at least 60% of their kids on free or reduced lunch programs.  As a church we believe we can make a difference.  In 2015, we partnered with Frank Mitchell Intermediate School to provide backpacks of food for kids who need more sustenance through the weekend.  Walking with the Arkansas Rice Depot, we supply backpacks of food on a weekly basis. Come pack bags with us and help us change this troubling statistic!

Vilonia UMC Food for Kids program

Given the statistics of food insecurity in Arkansas and Vilonia, we felt God asking us to do more.  Thus, on Wednesday nights during the school year, we feed kids.  It doesn't matter who you are or where your from, there is a meal for you.  Through the summer, we continue to host this meal.  Kids not only have the opportunity to eat a hot meal, but also we feed them spiritually with Bible Study.  Come help us transform our community as we serve all!

Spirit of Vilonia Food Bank

The Spirit of Vilonia Food Bank is a cooperative ministry sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance of Vilonia.  A number of churches in the area, including our church, support it financially and serve there on a regular basis.  SPOV, as we call it, supplies food on a weekly basis to any and all in our community who need it.  It also has begun a clothing closet to assist any who have need.  Open on Wednesdays from 9am-12pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm, it serves the least of these in our community. Vilonia UMC currently serves the 4th Saturday of the month.  Come helps us pack food boxes and join in relationship with others!

Mission of the Month

Throughout the year, there are a variety of missions we support.  From collecting baby items for young families and donating them to the Spirit of Vilonia Food Bank to collecting items for disaster recovery, throughout the year we keep our eyes and ears open to the needs in our community and world and do what we can to love others. Sometimes it is collecting items while other times it means getting our hands dirty in the community to love people back to life.

Other Opportunities

Above are just a few ways to serve outside the building in the community or for the community. There are a number of ways to serve Jesus within the congregation.  Even more, many of our small groups and Sunday School classes participate in a variety of projects to spread the love of Jesus.  If you are interested in learning how to serve within the church such as in worship, teach a Sunday School class, or want to know more about our community betterment programs, feel free to email us at viloniaumc@windstream.net.
