Children’s Ministry

We believe that children are an important part of God’s Kingdom. They are a blessing to us and are active participants in worship as well as Christian Education experiences. At VUMC, we offer a variety of classes for the age groups of kids we have.

Sunday Mornings

Nursery is available during the 9:00 a.m. service as well as during Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. The nursery is for infant up to 2 years old.

Toddler Sunday School for 2- to 3-year-olds starts at 10:15am in room 103. Age-appropriate activities teach children about the world around them and about God’s love for them.

Rotation Sunday School Class  is for Pre-K (4yrs old) through 4th grade and meets at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday Mornings.  Children enjoy cooking, art, science, storytelling, movies, play-acting, games and much more.  All children meet in the main Rotation Classroom on the 2nd floor (Room 204) where they first can earn reward points by reciting Bible verses, reciting the books of the New Testament and Old Testament, as well as by bringing a friend or bringing their Bible.  After this the children divide up into two age groups (Pre-K through 1st grade and 2nd grade through 4th grade) and then go to their assigned class.

Tween Sunday School/Confirmation is made up of 5th and 7th graders. Each Sunday the Tweens meet at 10:15am in Rom 201 upstairs. Every other year this age group participates in Confirmation using a curriculum called Credo. This curriculum which helps young people know their faith story--from creation to Christianity--confirm their faith by learning and embracing the essential beliefs and practices of The United Methodist Church, and take their vows to embark on the Christian journey. When Confirmation is not happening, the Tweens use a Methodist based curriculum which deals with the Christian life and appropriate topics of importance to this age group.

Wednesdays at the Well

This program is held during the school year and in the summer as well. Wednesdays at the Well begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings with a Fellowship Dinner in the Family Life Center. After dinner the following classes meet with adult leaders to enjoy a midweek lesson and activities centered on God’s love for them and what it means to be a disciple.

During the School Year:
Pre-K-1st Grade – Uses Cokesbury’s Deep Blue curriculum , which consists of a story video, music video, learning Bible verses, coloring sheets, crafts and playing games.
2nd Grade–4th Grade – Uses Cokesbury’s Deep Blue curriculum, which consists of a story video, music video, puzzles, crafts and games.
5th Grade-7th Grade – This class meets to learn more about the Bible through age-appropriate activities.

Pre-K through 7th Grade - During the summer the teachers pick a different curriculum from Cokesbury. After dinner and playing outside, the children go to different stations in the Family Life Center for crafts, story time, music and games.
